Safe Driving Resolutions for 2019

New Year's Resolution - Merced, CA

Each year, many of us make resolutions that we hope will turn us into better people. Unfortunately, most of us give up on the goals quickly. If you want to have better success this year, consider these safe driving resolutions. They are things that you can work on almost every day, which will help quickly turn them into safe driving habits.

Distracted Driving

If your phone is in your hand at any point while you are driving, you are distracted. Make a commitment for 2019 to put your phone away. If you have a particularly bad habit of checking your phone, consider putting it in the glove box where you won’t be able to see it, hear it, or reach it.

Maintenance

Even if you are a good driver, that won’t make up for you ignoring your car’s maintenance. Look in your owner’s manual to find a recommended service schedule. If you have fallen behind on that list, make 2019 your year to get back on track.

Turn Signals

One simple way to become a better driver is to use your turn signals every time you turn, change lanes, or merge into traffic. With a simple click of that signal, you let the drivers around you know what you are planning to do next. This can save you from some nasty looks and unwanted honking.

2019 Buick Lineup to Drop Brand Name from Vehicles

2018 Buick LaCrosse Hybrid

Brand name recognition is a big deal. Word of mouth and having a recognizable logo are major marketing tactics in the business world. And it seems that, in time for the 2019 Buick lineup, Buick has achieved the ultimate goal of gaining customers who can recognize the brand’s vehicles from logo alone. Buick recently announced plans to drop the brand’s name from the 2019 Buick lineup, relying entirely on the tri-shield logo for brand recognition.

This marketing decision comes in the wake of a survey conducted by Buick at the beginning of 2017, the results of which showed that 73 percent of drivers could recognize Buick vehicles from the logo alone. It’s also another strategic move by the brand to switch up expectations and preconceptions of Buick. In the past, the Buick name was associated with an older target demographic, while the automaker is currently aiming to appeal to a broader (and younger) audience. Dropping the Buick name from the back of its vehicles will also leave room for the new Avenir sub-brand badging.

The new Buick lineup, soon to be available at Ron Smith Buick GMC, will continue to deliver the brand’s “attainable luxury” while also building and expanding the new Avenir sub-brand. By leaving off the Buick name, the brand is taking another step towards revamping its image.

Tips for Buying a Used Car

2016 GMC Sierra 1500

Worried about buying a used car? Concerned that the process will suck up all your time and stress you out? It’s easy to get caught up in the difficulties of deciding on a type of car, getting the best value, and making sure the car is in good condition. To help you navigate the process of shopping for a vehicle, here are a few tips to keep in mind when buying a used car:

Set a Budget

Begin the process by settling on a good budget. If you’re open to buying cars older than five years, there may not be many banks willing to give you a loan to pay for an old used car, so make sure you have enough money to purchase the type of used car you want. While you should probably aim for vehicles with a bit of wiggle room underneath your budget cut-off point, you can also negotiate with the seller for a better price, as long as you’ve done your research.

Seek Out a Reputable Dealership

Shopping for a used car can also take you to different places. Customers are familiar with third-party sellers, such as former car owners placing classified ads. But everyone has heard their fair share of horror stories about former owners selling poorly-maintained vehicles to unsuspecting buyers.

You’re better off seeking out a reputable dealership like Ron Smith Buick GMC, because we can offer a more guaranteed, higher quality of vehicle than third party sellers.

When shopping for a used car you should always do your homework by checking the VIN, or Vehicle Identification Number, and having a history report run on the car to ensure it’s in good quality.

Finding a used car for an affordable price and in good condition could be right around the corner, especially when you visit Ron Smith Buick GMC.

2018 GMC Terrain Design Features Exciting Upgrades

GMC Terrain

The 2018 Terrain design is new for the latest model year, offering a fresh, bold look that’s bound to stand apart. The Terrain is a dependable small SUV that’s great for families and a wide range of drivers, and the 2018 model year will include smoother contours and a less boxy style. Not only will this improve aerodynamics, but it also gives the Terrain a refined look that will impress both family and friends.

According to The Oakland Press, the Terrain is shorter and lighter than the previous model year, and the Denali trim will have a satin-chrome grille, LED lighting, and signature alloy wheels. The front end is remarkably different, with new lines around the grille and front headlights that make the exterior changes stand out.

The interior also has some changes. Matt Myftiu at The Oakland Press notes that the GMC Terrain is “one of the most comfortable SUVs you will find on the market,” and that the Terrain is “surprisingly roomy for a small SUV.” In other words, the Terrain is compact without sacrificing comfort.

Other great features include a tuned 2.0-liter turbocharged engine to complement the bold exterior, while a nine-speed transmission provides a smooth ride. You can also opt for all-wheel drive if you want a little added control on slippery surfaces.
